Number of cars
Number of produced cars in this series: 499.
Number of cars in this list: 172    (34%)

Other models than the Silver Shadow
In 1965 and even in 1966 some cars were completed of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III and Bentley S3, mainly coachbuilt models. These cars are not part of the list and the count.
In 1965 and 1966 (until 1968) Rolls-Royce also sold cars of the model Phantom V. These are not mixed up with the chassisnumbers of the Silver Shadow and are not part of the series on these pages.
The Phantom VI was launched in 1968 as the successor of the Phantom V. The chassisnumbers were mixed with those of the Silver Shadow. The first Phantom VI had chassisnumber PRH4108. On number 1500 (PRH1500), provided in 1966, a prototype of the Phantom VI was manufactured. That is the reason why the number of produced Silver Shadows in this series gets stuck on 499.

Begin and end of series
1. The first Silver Shadow
In all sources the chassisnumber 1001 is mentioned as the first production-car in the Silver Shadow model range. According to the owner of the SRH1002 the 1001 was a Bentley T. Literature is not clear about that. Yet it can be read that the production of the Bentley T started in August 1965 and production of the Silver Shadow started in September 1965. This could confirm that the 1001 sure was a Bentley T.
Other sources say that the SBH1010 was the first Bentley T; in that case the 1001 was a Silver Shadow.
In March 2008 I got documentation that proved that the 1001 was a Bentley T.
2. The first left hand drive (LHD)
The first cars all were right hand drive (RHD). In my registration the SRX1114 is the first LHD Silver Shadow.
3. The first James-Young 2-door saloon
The first coachbuilt car was constructed by James Young. In January 1966 chassisnumber 1067 was set aside for that. The first Bentley T James Young was the CBH1342.
4. The first MPW 2-door saloon
The first MPW (Mulliner, Park Ward) was the CRH1148, a RHD 2-door saloon. At first Mulliner, Park Ward only built 2-door saloons based on the Silver Shadow and Bentley T. Convertibles only were launched at the end of 1967. The first Bentley T MPW 2-door saloon was the CBX1149, a LHD car.
5. The first Long wheelbase (pre-series)
In 1966/1967 Rolls-Royce manufactured 10 Long wheelbase versions of the Silver Shadow. They were different on many features from the later, definite versions. The first was the LRX1467.

Technical changes
From the beginning till the end numerous technical modifications were introduced. The first was already introduced on 1060, called "Harmonic damper to crossmember". On these pages the small technical changes are not mentioned, only the outstanding and significant are.

Different models
Many owners have converted their Silver Shadow or Bentley T to other types of coaches. The first one that I know is the SRH1478 that has been converted into a pick-up.

Other details of manufacturing
Rolls-Royce dealt with a lot of production problems in the first years of manufacturing of the Silver Shadow. The result of that was that in 1965 there were less cars delivered than normally would have been the matter. Above that for an owner of a new car it was more attractive to register the new car in the beginning of 1966 than at the end of 1965.
Beside that many cars in the list of chassisnumbers on this page have been delivered only in 1967. But that could have been caused by these cars being a demonstration car at first. According to some sources all 10 first cars have been used as demonstration cars.

Double numbers
Some numbers I have met in different appearances. For example SBX1268 also as SBH1268. Most of the double numbers are caused by the wrong notification of the owner. In the list on the site in these cases I mentioned the most probable chassisnumber. The double numbers in this series are:
SBX1268 also noticed as SBH1268.
